Guru Nanak is known as the first Guru of Sikh community who practice the Sikhism religion. The birthday of Guru Nanak Saheb is celebrated as the Guru Nanak Jayanti which is most sacred festival of Sikh. This is also known as Gurpurab occasions when Sikh people give prayer to the Guru Nanak. He is founder of Sikh religion was born Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. This festival celebration for Gurpurabs observed with Prabhat Pheris (early morning processions) and special prayer at the Gurudwaras. Before the two days of birthday a 48 hours reading of Guru Granth Sahib is observed which known as ‘Akhand Path’. Day before a procession (Nagarkirtan) is arranged by the Five Beloved Ones (Panj Pyaras) at Guruwara. The leader of procession with Sikh flag is called Nishan Sahib and followed by singers and devotees of Sikh. The ceremony is covered with decorated flowers, banners and flags with leader slogan the message of Guru Nanak on the occasion.
On Gurpurab the morning referred to as Amrit Vela started with prayer, Kirtan (Sikh song) for Guru Nanak. Then community lunch (Langar) is organized by Gurudwaras for the devotees. This free communal lunch is offered to everyone of any caste, class with service and devotion of the God. In the Night Prayer in Gurudwaras begin with evening prayers(Rehras) with Kirtan song singing Gurbani till late night the actual birth time of Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak Jayanti is observed by the Sikh people living all over in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and other parts of India. It also celebrated by the Sikh people in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
